Webkinz Cheeky Monkey webkins

This Cheeky Monkey Webkinz is so cute, and yet...he looks like he's capable of some good-natured mischief too. Hey, he's a monkey, right? :)

Not familiar with Webkinz? These toys are so cool...they come with a secret pass code that opens up a special web site where the kid and an adult can name their new "pet", adopt it and learn all about it. So besides the good old-fashioned fun, these unique critters also have a fun online component as well.

The Cheeky Monkey (love that name!) is about 8.5 inches tall and has the most adorable hands and feet, not to mention those chubby cheeks.

Cool Smilebox eCards

Does anyone send paper cards anymore? It seems like below a certain age, not so much. :) There still seems to be a little bit of sense that you're taking the easy way out, doesn't there?

Well, the folks at Smilebox have come up with something really different. Sure, they do ecards. But they use your own photos! How cool is that?! Send out a personal invitation...with your photo! Send out holiday cards...with the kids photos! It shows you took the extra effort to do something special and personalized.

Besides the e-cards, they let you make scrapbooks, slideshows, and all sorts of mash-ups, and they've made it so easy that a ... well, you know. Let's just say it's easy so we don't offend any cave-dwellers.

You have even take the creations you make and drop them into your myspace or blog...you'll be famous! :)

Personal Mist Cooler for Golfers

Summertime can be a great time for golf, except for one thing: the heat! What if you could carry around a portable device that would cool the air around you up to 30 degrees? Think of the comfort factor and how that would improve your game and keep you safer from heat-related problems.

Well, this personal mist generator is just the thing! It holds 16 ounces of water which it pressurizes and delivers as a delightful, cooling, mist! It's like getting a blast of air conditioning, wherever you go, so you're feeling fresh and rejuvenated and at the top of your game.

This deluxe version even includes a little fan to add some extra cooling power to the mist system...what a great extra!

The perfect gift for any golfer on your list...they'll be thanking you!

Portable Color USB Sheetfed Scanner

It's that time of year when we're thinking about taxes and deductions again. Wouldn't it be nice if all of your reciepts and bills were right there on your computer? With this innovative sheet scanner, they could be!

It plugs in to a USB port on your computer, and you can just feed a sheet of paper, reciept, or business card into it for scanning. All the software you need is included. This scanner is also set up for traveling, so if you're a road warrior you can easily take it with you to scan reciepts & business cards while you travel.

What a great way to ditch that stack of odd-sized bits of paper you're hanging on to for taxes and expense tracking!

Hasbro TV Mini Golf

My family loves to play mini golf but lets face it, by the time we get down there it costs over $20 for the 3 or 4 of us to play 18 holes.

While it won't replace a real live course, fun TV golf game from Hasbro is a lot of fun in its own right! My son got it for Christmas and we're still playing it daily a month later.

Setup is easy...put in the batteries and plug two cables in to your TV's composite input or VCR, just like most video games. That's all there is to it.

There are 5 different courses you can play, from the traditional "Goofy Golf" type layout with windmills and ramps to the exotic outer space course with orbiting planets, very little friction, and wandering robots.

There's an aiming wheel that fits the club head, and optical sensor in the "ball" that detects how hard you swing the club, so the putter action is quite realistic, excepting that you skim over the ball instead of hitting it. It's quite easy to master.

Baby Logic DVD

Delightful, cheery music accompanies fun shapes while introducing the ABC's and 123's! It's what babies want to hear and see, and what you want them to learn!

Baby Logic is unique compared to most baby videos. It utilizes advanced techniques from proven methods over time, incorporating smooth transitions, high contrast familiar shapes, and logical motions to help stimulate brain activity. This approach attempts to occupy your baby and help brain development.

Scooby Doo Snack Tracks

A lot of my peers were huge Scooby Doo fans back in the 70's, but somehow I missed that the first time around. No matter, because my son is big into Scooby and the Gang and I'm learning to enjoy them for the first time right along with him.

One facet of the Scooby Doo experience is of course the music, and this fun CD includes the title themes from 1969, 1972, 1976 and 1984 and 1985 incarnations of the franchise. For some reason they left out my favorite, which is the catchy theme from "A Pup Named Scooby Doo". But no matter, because they did include Danny Janssen's bubblegum pop "chase music" including "Daydreamin'", "Seven Days a Week", and "Pretty Mary Sunlite".

Something a little different for the Scooby Doo fan on your gift list!

The Tyrannosaurus "crane" makes fun construction sounds as the child uses him to build (and tear down) the mountain pieces and boulders.

Just when you thought you'd seen all there was to see iPod-wise, Apple has come out with a new model! The iPod nano is just 0.27 inches thick and weighs only 1.5 ounces! Despite the thin size, It's a full-feature iPod though with a crisp color display and 14-hour battery life.

The price point is pretty great too: $199 for 2GB (500 songs) and $249 for 4GB (1000 songs), with free shipping and free laser engraving if you order it from this site.

I have an iPod Shuffle and love it...but this new model making me think of upgrading to a nano! :)

I know it's cliche to say "it's the gift that keeps on giving", but these books make great gifts. They're full of coupons and deals for everything your friends and family like to do. The Entertainment Book can even give you some inspiration to try a few places you may have been wondering about!

For 2006, there's a few new special deals I'll fill you in on. First, for anyone who buys a Entertainment Book between September 5th 2005 and September 30th 2005, they are including a FREE $5 Gift Card for Target. Nice bonus!

The second deal is good all year long: there's a FREE movie rental and single popcorn coupon from Blockbuster.

This is a no-brainer...these books pay for themselves many times over in savings AND they make a gift that's used over and over for a whole year.

KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Mill

OK, I'm pretty serious about my coffee, and I like to grind my own beans because they're fresher and I can combine different kinds of coffee together. Unfortunately, I seem to wear out a regular burr grinder every 8 or 9 months and you can't get replacement burr wheels anywhere, so you pretty much have to just buy a new one, which I hate!

So this time when my favorite Delonghi grinder got worn out, I looked around for a replacement that would last longer and have replaceable parts. I found this Kitchen Aid, and I'm in love. :-)

It runs at a lower speed, so it's quiet! It grinds faboulously out of a large glass hopper, and it's so solidly made. I expect I'll be using this one for many years to come.

Turtles Laying Eggs Aboriginal Art Print

I really enjoy the dot-paintings that Australian Aboriginal artists produce. I have a few originals hanging here in my home office and I find myself gazing at them when I'm deep in thought. The style has a sort of energy about it that implies motion and action and yet is very calming.

This print is a high-quality silk-screen version of a dot painting of three sea turtles laying their eggs, 16.8" by 20.6".

Lasonic region-free DVD player

We're very fond of region-free here at my house. If you don't know what that means, in a nutshell, your typical DVD player is "region-locked" to only play a DVD from your own part of the world. So if you're a fan of British comedies, German documentaries, Japanese Anime, etc., and would like to buy a DVD from that country and play it at home...you're out of luck!

This affordable Lasonic DVD player is a solution. It has all the typical DVD features you'd expect, plus it supports the DIVX/MP4 formats for highly-compressed DVD-R movies. Great stuff!

We use our region-free player to watch DVD's of TV shows from the UK that you just can't see anywhere here in the USA, like "Coupling", "Men Behaving Badly", and "Ground Force" specials in their original format.

I really should get one of these. Living in Florida, last year we had to deal with these nasty "hurricane" critters that left a lot of folks without power for days or weeks. We got pretty lucky and only lost power for a few hours at a time, but if it had gone on longer we would have lost everything in the freezer, not been able to see any TV news, and wouldn't have had any way to run a fan to keep cool.

This bad-boy has a 6HP Tecumseh Enduro engine and a 4 gallon gas tank. What was that noise that Tim Allen used to make? "ruhh ruhh ruhh roooh!"

OK, this may not be that unusual these days, but it's something cool and one of those things it's hard for me to imagine being without...DirecTV and TiVo.

What brought this to mind is that while I have been out enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, my TiVo has been faithfully recording the Space Shuttle mission hilights from NASA TV, my favorite cooking shows on the Food Network, and even the latest Beach Volleyball, all without me doing anything. Whenever I have the time and want to watch them, I can. That's the best thing, it lets me do my viewing on my schedule.

If you have kids, how many times have you heard "hey, I want to watch that again!". TiVo is great for that. We have a whole season's worth of The Backyardigans and Prehistoric Planet saved away for whenever my son wants to see them. It's so handy!

I want to get one just so that I can show it to someone and say "My hovercraft is full of eels...really tiny RC eels!" :-)

Copper Spirals Bird Feeder and Bath Set

I like this copper bird feeder and bath set because the shapes are so organic and functional. The interlocking pieces form both a basin/feeder and a shelter as well. Very unusual! I bet these get a nice patina after being outside for a season.

Also available individually.

DaNisha Sculpture: Triple Human

We're big fans of figural art and this unique ceramic sculpture definitely qualifies. I like how the three figures that support the shallow bowl are echoed in the classical style nudes within.

Pyro XS Rainbow Stunt Kite

My cranky high-school gym teacher was always telling me to go fly a kite. I probably would have listened to him if I'd had a cool kite like this one!

It has an awesome 80-inch wingspan and a carbon-graphite frame. No more sitting around at the beach or park, wondering what to do, ok? :-)

Metropolis Toaster

This toaster from DeLonghi would be right at home in Fritz Lang's 1927 film Metropolis, which is probably where the name came from. :) The styling us ultra-retro sci-fi and looks like it's just as likely to go airborne as make toast!

Available in 2-slice and 4-slice and it has controls and adjustments out the wazoo, so it will brown your breadstuffs just how you like 'em.

Source: HomeVisions, who have lots of other retro-style kitchen gear as well.

This "mega" sized version of the AirZooka sends a silent blast of air across a room to "puff!" someones' hair or rustle some papers. The perfect stealth gag...just try not to give yourself away by giggling too much! :-)

Russian Tennis Player Nesting Dolls

These traditional Russian matryoshka (nesting dolls) have the faces of tennis players on them. Kinda neat, but I'm holding out for the Maria Sharapova set. :) Check out the site, because they also have other caricatures and more traditional folksy designs.

And here's a special deal we've worked out, to make one of these nesting doll sets a really cool gift: if you order from our link, they will personalize the largest doll with a name and up to 10 exta words...for free! Just write the personalization info into the "Comments" field when you order. How sweet is that?
